SAN MARINO , CALIF. (April 2005) – In a multi-faceted effort to right the balance between academics and character development, Ann Brazil, producer of the six-time award-winning DVD, TimeOut Tot: The Behavior Coach, brings to TWO Borders' Books & Music stores the first in a series of “KinderCharacter Classes” for preschool-age children, their parents, grandparents and teachers. TimeOut Tot makes a live appearance to present his first lesson: “No One Wins with a Whine.” The event is free and open to the public. There are no registration requirements.
The show stars TimeOut Tot and brings to life his Parents' Choice award-winning DVD that teaches good behavior, which is now being adapted into a year-long behavior program at the request of both private and public pre-k programs– because it works! In the DVD, as in the puppet show, Tot uses colorful stories, songs, and role-play to demonstrate the difference between appropriate and inappropriate behavior. Tot brings with him games and crafts to reinforce his meaningful messages.
The creator of this multiple award-winning TimeOut Tot , Ann Brazil, will be there to help Tot present the “KinderCharacter Class” and share with parents the inspiration behind the making of TimeOut Tot and her all-new approach to timeout, so that parents can use the same techniques at home.
Together, the TimeOut Tot line and traveling “KinderCharacter Classes” meet a need largely ignored by a market flooded with products that focus on classroom performance rather than “playground performance.” A recent Pausitive Programs/Synovate survey found that society is in fact putting intellectual pursuits before character development, spawned by competition for private kindergarten placement that began almost 20 years ago. As a result, we are seeing dire consequences to behavior among young children at home and at school: |

Eighty-four percent of parents believe it's essential for their children to be courteous and polite, but only 34 percent feel they have succeeded in teaching them this . (Public Agenda, 2002) |

Sixteen percent of teachers cite discipline as the biggest problem in their schools, second only to adequate school funding. (Phi Delta Kappa, an international association for professional educators)

Sometimes is takes a third party to teach “the behavior lesson,” and TimeOut Tot is a great teacher…one who parents, teachers and caregivers can count on for creativity, consistency and quality…one who talks to kids in a way that adults can't because Tot is an imaginary character who is non-judgmental, understanding and encouraging at a time when parents are at their “wits end.” Children really listen to and learn from Tot! Bring your children to the TimeOut Tot Puppet Show, and then… bring Tot home! The TimeOut Tot DVD will be on sale along with two NEW products:
1. The TimeOut Tot Puppet & Acorn Treat that rewards good behavior. TimeOut Tot likes to “catch” kids doing the right thing and reward them with goodies hidden inside his acorn. After all, the best way to encourage good behavior is to recognize and reward it.
2. Tot's Tunes: TimeOut Tot's first CD collection of songs and musical games. You won't want to miss this special event, but if you do…go to TimeOutTot.com for other TimeOut Tot appearances or to buy the TimeOut Tot DVD, Plush Puppet &Acorn Treat, and Tot's Tunes CD. |

Based in San Marino , Calif. , Pausitive Programs LLC creates, markets and distributes products for a unique behavior program aimed at nurturing character, manners, good behavior and social development in young children. Company founder Ann R. Brazil, a mother of three, was inspired to develop the program by her extraordinary experiences rearing one son with special needs and another with leukemia. The company's flagship product, TimeOut Tot: The Behavior Coach , is a Parents' Choice award-winning interactive DVD that not only advises caregivers but talks directly to preschool-age children who have been sent to timeout. Tot, a friendly neighborhood squirrel, made by a Jim Henson puppet maker, gently communicates with story and song, teaching right from wrong through visually simulating six different common misbehaviors in children.
